I am so fucking frustrated with the pseudo lgbt+ writers groups on Facebook. The majority of the members are straight cis writers who only write ‘dirty’ gay sex about cis gay men. Everything they share or post is all about the sex or gay angst. I’m so fucking tired of it.
Just … come on! There are how many more letters to that fucking acronym? And sex isn’t the be all end all of a relationship. And there are a lot more genders than two.
I’m just so fucking done. Queer writer support group my fat ass.
I wholeheartedly agree with this.
A lot of straight cis women tend to use us as a crutch for “exploring their sexuality” which is all shades of fucked up let me tell you. Especially when they only focus on sex, which is another thing that homophobes tend to dish out. If a gay couple is on a kid’s cartoon, it’s automatically too “adult” and “confusing” for kids and not appropriate, even though for decades we’ve been showing them het relationships and all that it’s done is damage LGBT+ kids who grow up thinking there’s something wrong with them.
I was one of those kids.
Another thing that bothers me about is the whole “dirty gay sex” “gay angst” “sinful gays” “my sexy gay babes” or whatever else straight cis women use to describe their ocs/canon characters in a same sex ship is that they’re promoting the idea that gay people are a fetish. They tend to mock men for watching lesbian porn and yet don’t realize the irony of what they’re doing.
Gay people are not a fetish!!!!
No seriously, this annoys me, when I see, “Oh my god I’m sinning so baaaaaad,” and the only “sin” is that it’s a same sex pairing. Also why the holy fuck would you put, “Wow I’m sinning” when that is literally the excuse some people would use as a reason to hurt us. In some parts of the world gay people are stoned to death for their “sins” of being attracted to the same sex, both sexes or different genders. In others they’re arrested. We’re still discriminated against, we’re still denied representation (and when we get it the homophobic straights complain about how we’re cramming our sexuality down their throats, we’re “ruining” a series, we’re “gaying” everything up, we’re “destroying” a character *furiously looking at the straight cis men/women who called Jacob Frye being bisexual a malicious lie and tainting of Jacob’s character, fuck you people*) and it takes a lot of courage and bravery for an LGBT person to come out, to be true to themselves. Straight cis writers take this away from us by implying our struggles are their porn fodder, their “guilty pleasures,” their “sinful ships.”
What they probably don’t realize, or probably don’t care, is that these actions dehumanize the LGBT community. It’s harmful. It’s disgusting. If you want to write your gay ships, your lesbian ships, headcanon a character as bisexual or write a trans woman, you can do all these things and have a blast without making it exclusively sexual or fetishizing. You write it the same way you’d write a straight couple. Would you focus entirely on their sex life or their angst being a straight person? No. Then please don’t do that for LGBT couples and people, we’re more than our sexual orientation or our gender. They’re a crucial part to who we are, yes, but we’re not solely defined by it. Just like you are not solely defined by being straight or cis.
I could not agree more. The fetishization really appalls me, as well as their tendancy to talk over queer authors.
I- I just can’t get over Zuko and his arc. Everything he did – everything – was out of this insane drive to prove everyone wrong, to prove that he was worth something, and it amazes me that he never realized just how valuable he already was.
His sister tells him ‘You waste all your time playing with knives. You’re not even good!’ and he masters dual swords.
His sister is a prodigy and he’s told he’ll never catch up. He learns from dragons. He trains the Avatar. He takes her down (with the help of a very skilled waterbender)
He’s left behind by his mother, cast out by his father, hunted by his sister, and Zuko still learns unconditional love.
His father tells him he’s worthless and unloved, that he was ‘lucky to be born,’
and he becomes a man that the world is proud of.
Anything his family said to him, he managed to turn around and build on it. He thrived on it, exploded from it, turned all the negativity into a positive path and it’s just… it’s amazing.
There’s just no end to my love for this character. No fucking end.
Bonus: The weak, banished prince has fangirls for all the ages. Take that, Ozai.
Zuko has the best redemption and development of ANY character I’ve ever encountered.

It’s okay to read through your first draft and realize that 75% is terrible. That’s why we refine. That’s why we have second, third and fourth drafts. The trick is to not give up and just lay on the floor when you come to that realization.
I’m reading this queer anthology and the first story is a fairytale about a queer Latina girl whose anger was so fierce it literally poisoned the rich white men who unfairly captured the transgender soldier she was in love with and my heart is literally bursting I’m going to cry
the second story is about two queer girls who leave their husbands-to-be at the altar and flee together on a boat to become pirates IM FUCKING SCREAMING THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF GAY CONTENT I SIGNED UP FOR
okay this is the anthology and it’s entirely written by queer authors and inspired by the stories of real queer teens in history and it’s the most wholesome and epic thing I’ve read in a long while
