This is a horrible website for art. This is a horrible website for artists.

The only art that ever gets attention here is fanart, or artists who already have thousands of followers. 

Nothing new is ever added to the mix, nothing else ever gets out there, because you guys see art, and while you might think it’s cool, you keep on scrolling because it isn’t Undertale or Homestuck or whatever sports anime is popular right now. You only give attention to fanart, and even that is an elitist club where attention is only given to the chosen few fandoms.

Artists who create original work are getting less and less support all the time. I’m feeling it, and I’m seeing my friends get less support too. We’re losing followers. Our note count is going down.

“Do art for yourself!” People say. But that only goes so far. No matter how you slice it, getting ignored and snubbed constantly on pieces you spent precious hours on while you watch the notes on a quick fanart doodle soar into the thousands hurts. We don’t create art to place it in a dark room and never be looked at. No artist ever posts art here thinking “I hope no one looks at this and it gets no notes.”

Encouragement and praise go a long way to help artists with original ideas, but you guys don’t care about original ideas. They’re falling by the wayside. Soon there won’t be any new things to make fanart of. How many movies that have come out in recent years have been sequels or remakes? A lot more than new, original concepts, that’s for sure. When you look around in a few years and find that everything is stale, boring, and overdone, know that you have no one to blame for that but yourself.

Ideas need support. Ideas need to be shared and fostered and encouraged. Otherwise, they die off into nothing. 

Reblog more than just fanart, please.

You know, it’s not even just artist that have thousands of followers. 

I have 5k+ followers as of a couple months ago. My original works hardly get any notice, and a lot of the time my fanart doesn’t get noticed. People are ridiculous when it comes to reblogging people’s art. They’re ashamed of it for some reason. Like, I’ll have art that has 100 notes. two of them are reblogs, and they were MY OWN REBLOGS. TO MY OTHER TWO ART BLOGS.

People need to fucking reblog art. REBLOG THE ART PLEASE. SUPPORT ARTIST’S ORIGINAL CONTENT! PLEASE!

Please reblog this darlings. Most of us know the feeling of not getting any attention unless fan art is being posted. I’ve been there and because of that I just stopped posting fan art completely unless I’m in mood too.

Not to mention that some people depend on fan art to get more viewership, I don’t believe that it should work that way. But it just does, and only we can make a difference.

Draw what makes you happy and post what you are comfortable posting.

• sees her brother after a v dangerous mission and immediately roasts him
• continues to roast him throughout the movie despite a) him being king and b) them being in a political crisis

a lot of reviews i’ve seen of rafiki have given it a 3/5 and critics are calling it a sweet, simple, almost bubblegum-ish movie…. but like that’s the whole point of it? it’s meant to be a drama at its core, but bursting with joy, music and love. 

we often take advantage in the west of the fact that we can portray the sexual, political and complicated aspects of lgbt life without it being censored, but in a country with militant homophobia and anti-gay laws, a portrayal of a lesbian romance in the modern day between two teenagers as sweet, and innocent is an incredibly brave stance to take. 

rafiki is not as complex or heartbreaking or visceral as brokeback mountain, but it’s a powerful statement in and of itself to make a movie about lesbians that’s actually happy in tone for once. it’s something that larger studios here are still too scared to make lmao

My dear children,

Rafiki is a beautiful, powerful movie about a young lesbian couple in Kenya, a country where homosexuality is banned. This movie is so ground breaking, so beautiful, in how it represents these overlapping issues, while also giving us the happy, heart-felt story many of us got from Love, Simon. 

Please, please for your own sake, watch this beautiful movie. Talk about it, rave about it, and let people know how beautiful it is. Lesbians, especially black lesbians, deserve this kind of happy portrayal. Please let this movie get as much love and attention as Love, Simon did. Please let this movie empower as many beautiful, black individuals as Black Panther did. Let this movie be known well enough to empower so many individuals who deserve it.

You’re ol’ pops here is crying right now, because so many of you wonderful, strong individuals deserved this movie. You deserve this strength, this power, and this joy. My heart aches for all of you who did not grow up with this kind of movie, so please, just share it so your younger siblings may.
