Men are held to such low standards in relationships and it’s infuriating; just today I heard from my co-workers that ones husband never drove to come see her when they were doing long distance, and the other’s hasn’t mowed once in their 30+ years of marriage.
Like we like fun at lesbians moving fast in relationships, but that’s because women are socialized much differently than men, and those traits lead to healthier relationships. Though gender roles are fucking wack in general, you can’t deny that women are raise to be more understanding, expressive, and caring in general. My girlfriend drives 2 hours to come see me every weekend, and my friends boyfriend can barely make the 40 minute trip to come see her.
When women are in relationships with each other, they are more likely to talk about feelings, and go farther for their partners. Women do this in hetero relationships too, but it’s rarely reciprocated if they’re with a cis male.
I read an incredible essay about how gay marriage is incredibly beneficial to straight partners, because straight relationships always have a basis in inequality, due to societal gender divisions. Gay relationships show what it’s like to have a relationship without a gender based power imbalance.
Ladies, if you wouldn’t put up with it from a best friend, don’t let a boyfriend get away with it. Cultivate a society where men in relationships have to at least have basic decency; not only through your partners, but also through how you raise your sons.
I’m shamelessly rebloging myself because I think this is a very important concept that more people need to be introduced too; I hope this gains traction and shows people to think critically about how they are treated.
I think this was the first coming of age and romance movie produced specifically with a non-hetereonorm story in mind. I have a lot of positive things to say about this movie so this review might get rather lengthy and is likely to be nothing but spoilers so if you haven’t seen the movie and you would rather have certain parts be unpredictable, I suggest you save the reading of this review for once you have seen the movie.
loved one: sorry, i can’t hang out! i have plans with other people
my hellbrain’s instincts: wow you love them more tha-
me, ignoring her and working on being a better person: that’s okay! i hope you have fun! can we hang out some other time?
I love this bc it’s a little snapshot of what the intermediate stage of recovery/treatment/growth can look like.
It might not be what you expect. I think people want to stop having those thoughts immediately, and if they can’t they feel that they’ve failed. But that’s not true! Challenging those old thought patterns is exactly what recovery looks like
‘Love Simon’ and ‘The Flash’ Star Keiynan Lonsdale Says It’s Time Queer Superheroes Fly on Big Screen
While speaking with TooFab about the home video release of gay, teen romantic comedy “Love Simon,” star Keiynan Lonsdale said he hopes the movie’s success lights a fire in Hollywood.
“We will see it, 100 percent,” the star of “The Flash” and “Legends of Tomorrow” said when asked whether he thinks we’ll see the film side embrace queer representation soon.
“I mean, I really do think that ‘Love, Simon’ makes a huge difference in that,” he continued. “The hold up is that, you know, the way the business works is so many people are mostly thinking about money and so when we have a film like ‘Love, Simone’ come along and make money, it shows the audiences are ready, they are excited, they are wanting this.”
With a budget of around $17 million, the movie went on to make almost $60 million in the box office and became one of the 15 highest grossing teen romances since 1980.
“I think it’s making the people at the top go, ‘OK, we don’t have to be so fearful,’ because I think at the end of the day they want that representation as well,” Lonsdale continued. “It’s like giving them permission to go all out and do the thing. And now it’s not just permission, but it’s like, ‘No, no, no. You better do the thing. We’re telling you, like you got to do it.’”
“I’m super excited to find out where it all goes, like 100 percent going to have queer superheroes and queer superheroes of color and it’s gonna be an incredible array of stories, I know it, for sure,” he added.
Londsale’s comments come after Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s same-sex relationship in “Deadpool 2” received praise from GLAAD for bringing more representation to a genre that has so far left the community underserved.
The organization’s president and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, applauded 20th Century Fox for giving “countless moviegoers around the world what they’ve longed to see- LGBTQ superheroes in a relationship who protect the world together. Negasonic and Yukio’s storyline is a milestone in a genre that too often renders LGBTQ people invisible, and should send a message to other studios to follow this example of inclusive and smart storytelling.”
