You know what? I do see the difference!

The guy on the left is awarding Ellen with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. That’s an award given to American citizens. The guy on the right is giving a veteran the Presidential Medal of Honor, an award given to soldiers who serve their country.

Obama gave out Medals of Honor to dozens of soldiers. So it is really weird that they chose to use a photo of him with Ellen instead of one any of those. It’s almost as if they were intentionally making an unfair comparison in order to confirm the biases of the uneducated rubes who trust Facebook memes more than actual news.

Fun Fact: That veteran served in Vietnam, a war that the current commander in chief deferred from serving in FIVE TIMES because he had painful “bone spurs.”

The president heroically overcame that obstacle the second the draft was over, and now he can even play golf 2-3 times a week instead of doing the job he was elected to do.

See? You can learn something from memes. It just takes a little digging.

I feel like a lot of people don’t want to ask questions they have about gender/sexuality to LGBT people because they don’t want to offend them because we talk about cishet people asking stupid or intrusive questions a lot

But actually when you’re questioning it’s really helpful to be able to ask some ‘stupid’ questions although you’re too afraid to

So can y’all LGBTQIA+ people reblog this if you’re totally fine with people asking questions about your gender/sexuality, as long as they do so respectfully

I’ll answer as many “when did you realize you were a lesbian and not bi?” questions as I get. Same to “how do I know if it’s comphet or if I’m genuinely attracted to men?”

Ask me all the questions, have no fear 🙂

something weird

im bi but I tend to get crushes on fictional male characters more that real men and real women more than fictional female characters

so I guess I like to concept of men

i think this is a common feeling because men are written with such depth and complexity, whereas fictional women are not only few and far between, but are written half-assedly and from a place of little understanding of a woman’s standpoint.

meanwhile, real women are lovely and complex people, and real men are mostly just potatoes.

Truth.

one thing I don’t think people realize is that in arguments about human rights, it’s not about trying to persuade the other party. it’s not about them at all. they’ve already made up their mind.

it’s about persuading the audience.

if I call out my teacher on being homophobic I’m not trying to change his opinion. I’m trying to convince any closeted kids in the room that they’re not the monsters he’s made them out to be.

if I argue with my aunt about how racist she’s being it’s not because I expect to change her mind. it’s because I’m hoping to god my cousin’s kids hear and learn that maybe skin color doesn’t mean what she says it means.

people will try to hush you and say “they’re not going to change their minds, don’t bother” but it’s not about them. it was never about them.

I never realized why I kept fighting, even knowing that most people won’t allow themselves to understand.  That most bigots would rather be stubborn and blind than proved wrong.  Yet, I just kept coming even when I knew they wouldn’t hear me.

Thank you.  I feel suddenly less frustrated.

And that’s why it’s important to remember that you don’t need to convince the other party to feel like you’ve won. Just making sure that other people heard you is winning for all of us.

It works too.  The first time I heard someone defend some one’s sexual orientation was my aunt yelling at my cousins for being little homophobic assholes.  It was really comforting and I started to be more sure of myself and feel like maybe there wasn’t anything wrong with me.  maybe I wasn’t horrible because I liked girls and boys.  I was 11.

as a white girl growing up surrounded by white people, i first really found out about racism from a black american woman beating her head against a wall in a livejournal community, trying to explain to belligerent racists why affirmative action was necessary and not discriminatory against white people. i followed her to her blog and read about racism. hell, i  found out about feminism through the lens of black women critiquing white feminism which was the best way i could have come into that i think. that seemingly fruitless battle by a stranger changed my life and made me who i am today. i will forever be grateful.

PSA: So there’s this website called 7 Cups and it’s basically online live therapy and it’s really great and there’s a lot of helpful LGBTQIA listeners on there that will listen to you and your asexual related (or anything really) problems. I went there for my social anxiety and now I’ve become a listener and so like just to all you ace people who wanna talk to someone a little quicker than via tumblr asks this is the site for you.
