say what you want about elon musk but you gotta admit it’s extremely funny that the rescue team got those boys out before elon could even finish masturbating all over his shitty little escape pod

like he was hemming and hawing over what kind of music to load it with and the thai rescue teams just. got the job done normally. without him. he contributed jack shit and his shitty little submarine was rendered useless by completely standard scuba gear and a few determined workers.

dude tried playing the white savior just got blown the fuck out by people who actually cared about what was going on

the people replying to this are wild

their go-to thing is “well what did you do to help” as if elon himself did anything to help. at all.

here’s what happened: he heard about the tragedy on the news and immediately tried to make it about himself. he publicly announced he was going to swoop in and help before consulting anyone, threw a tantrum when the thai rescuers declined his offer because they knew what they were doing and didn’t need an expensive, impractical escape pod to do their jobs, and now he’s STILL making the issue about himself by ragging on the rescuers for refusing his help.

i get it. he’s rich. he makes spaceships. he lives the way you wish you could live and does the things you dream about doing with his money, but he’s still an egotistical dickhead. he underpays his workers, wastes money on useless ventures, and any time he does anything charitable he does it for PR purposes.

if he wanted to help people he wouldn’t wait for opportunities to spontaneously show off, he’d actually actively be helping people. he’d be using his money to fix broken roads, fund schools, fix flints pipes, stuff that’s been a problem for a long time. you don’t have to wait for an opportunity to help people, there’s always people in need.

elon doesn’t do that. he makes expensive toys for his own amusement. he’s not interested in helping people. the story about the boys in thailand happened to grab his attention and he thought “i bet i can make a toy for that.”

and that’s what he did. he made a highly publicized toy for himself and then threw a tantrum when the actual rescuers declined his offer to swoop in and save the day with an impractical toy and he is still throwing that tantrum now that the boys are safe.

find better heroes.

“May I please draw your OC?”

carminecrossroads:

Reblog this message if you encourage anyone that wants to draw your OC to do so.  No need to ask for permission in advance.

Go for it.  Draw my OC.  If you want, I’ll even give you reference posts.  Go to town on it.

You are welcome to draw my OC and surprise me with the result.  Seriously.  In fact, I encourage it.  I will proudly display whatever it is you submit to me regarding my OC.  There is a chance that I will squeal about it for several days.

Even if you feel you aren’t good at whatever artistic adventure it is you do, please feel free to submit it to me.  I want to see what you have done.

When your child says “Why can’t I get a puppy?”

Instead of defaulting to “My house, my rules”

Try “Any pet is a lot of responsibility. A puppy would have to be fed, walked, and taken outside to use the bathroom several times a day and taken for regular check-ups and vaccinations at the vet. You can’t do all of that by yourself, and I/we don’t have the time or money either.”

When your teenager says “Why can’t I come home at 2:00 this Saturday?”

Instead of defaulting to “My house, my rules!”

Try “The time you come home is a matter of respect and consideration. I/We will not only be concerned for your safety, but we would either be disturbed in the middle of the night when you arrive or forced to stay up for several extra hours waiting.”

When your child says “Why am I not allowed to do this thing?”

Instead of defaulting to “My house, my rules!”

Try actually communicating a legitimate reason, because children pick up on subtlety and on context and on the unspoken messages, and it’s better to teach children lessons like “You should think really hard before taking on new responsibilities” and “It’s important to show consideration for the needs of the people with whom you share a living space” than lessons like “It’s okay for people to demand your absolute obedience so long as you’re dependent on them for survival.”

yupppppp

This depends on the kid, really. Some kids respond very well to being given a reason why. Others will just try and find a way to get around your reason. “Why can’t I go outside?” “Because it’s too dark.” “What if I bring a flashlight?” “Because it’s also cold.” “What if I wear a coat and bring a flashlight?” “Because a flashlight isn’t enough light.” “What if we turn on all the house light and open the curtains so it lights up the yard and then I can go outside?” etc. I don’t think you can really give one-size-fits-all child raising advice.

“Because it’s 8:00 PM, which is nearly bedtime. Plus, if you were to go outside this late at night, I would have to sit outside and watch you to make sure nothing happens to you, and I have things I have to do inside.”

If that doesn’t work, “I said no and told you why, and my my decision stands. You can play inside until bedtime, but you’re not going outside.”

On the note of “one size fits all child raising advice”… it is ALWAYS better to opt to teach your child reason and respect and a healthy relationship with responsibility than it is to teach them

It’s okay for people to demand your absolute obedience so long as you’re dependent on them for survival.” because they will take these lessons forward with them to inform them on how to behave towards other people.

No one is saying you can never break it down to you being the decision maker or being responsible for them or even an ultimatum in cases where a child is really set on not listening.

We’re saying that “because I said so” should not be the go to response for all things and that anytime you are defaulting to that, you should probably be considering what you could teach them instead.

“Because I am the authority figure and it’s my job to take care of you and this is the judgement I am making. Period.” can be a valid answer, but it should be the last resort. And it should be framed like that, and not as “you owe me your existence.”

Dear D&Diary,

Today I had the revelation that my half orc has 30ft speed, but because she’s a monk, her unarmored movement is +10ft at Level 3. Using the ki feature Breath of the Wind, she can dash as a bonus action meaning she can go 80ft in a turn.

If anyone cast Haste on my dear sweet Marfu, she would go 160 in six seconds.

At her most perfect Level 20 self’s unarmored movement of +30, she could go a max 120ft in a turn, or 240ft hasted. With 20 ki points to spend that could mean a solid two minutes of going almost 30 miles per hour and I think that’s beautiful.

jade-empath replied to your post:

don’t forget that you can dash as your standard action as well as your bonus action!

OH GOD YOU’RE RIGHT

Right now at Level 3:
max 120 ft. per turn
240 ft. Hasted = 27 MPH

Level 20:
180 ft. per turn
360 ft. Hasted = …

EVERYBODY OUTTA THE GODDAMN WAY THIS ORC LADY COMIN AT YOU AT 40 MILES PER HOUR

vgtgvgs replied to your post:

Grab yourself the mobile feat for that extra 10ft base movement

We’re up to a max of 210/420 (lol) feet per six seconds which is 47 MPH. I feel like we’re crowdsourcing this monk at this point to make her as game-breakingly fast as possible.

BETTER MAKE THAT 94MPH

I quote the 5th Edition rulebook:

Boots of Speed

While you wear these boots, you can use a Bonus Action and click the boots’ heels together. If you do, the boots double your walking speed, and any creature that makes an opportunity attack against you has disadvantage on the Attack roll. If you click your heels together again, you end the effect.

When the boots’ property has been used for a total of ten minutes, the magic ceases to function until you finish a Long Rest.

Are you telling me Haste and Boots of Speed STACK?! Oh my god we’ve discovered the real Fast Travel function

Oh shit mom’s home everyone hide the Speed

you know that dumbass Forbes article advocating for Amazon stores to replace public libraries? It was taken down cause the author got dragged so hard by like everyone who has ever entered a library in their life & now Forbes released a statement basically calling the author of the original op-ed “deeply misinformed” lmao

“Libraries play an important role in our society. This article was outside of this contributor’s specific area of expertise, and has since been removed.”

Don’t fuck with libraries.

You know, mabes we socialist types should proactively do something to help our local libraries before capitalists find ways of shutting them down for good.  Some kind of mass fundraiser or something, I don’t know what.  But they seem like the last holdout for people who believe that everyone has a right to resources, no questions asked.

For many people, the library is the one place they can access the internet, which may in turn be the only way they can apply for jobs or get schoolwork done.

Other technology is also available for use at a library, such as a copier or a printer (ours even has a 3D printer open to the public).

The library is a safe place to go if it’s raining or really cold outside.

Children are enabled to read more books than their allowance could ever possibly afford, and for kids from lower-income backgrounds, it might be their only access to books at all.

Lots of libraries provide classes that are needed in their community, whether it’s ESL or literacy or parenting or what have you.  Free of charge.

You can even borrow movies or seasons of TV shows instead of springing for Netflix.

And there is no shame whatsoever in visiting one.  There is no social stigma attached to the library, it’s for everyone, period.

Any librarians with ideas for how we could help keep them going?

Support the Library Defense Network! They’re a leftist org made up of library workers and they organize communities to prevent public library closures.
