so we have a name problem

wheeloffortune-design:

wheeloffortune-design:

i mean

gay – for gay pride, gay marriage, gay rights… but we’re not all gay

lgbt is missing quite a few letters

lgbt+  …. seems pretty dismissive of the other letters

lgbtquia doesn’t quite roll off the tongue

queer can hurt people

mogai is used by pedos

and we are NOT using Not-Straights

so, I suggest

The Pride.

(since the word is already ours.)

fightsinglivedie

whats the u

… i just noticed i typed an u, as a habit after the q. it’s an error and not supposed to mean anything or mock the lgbtqia+ designation.

Someone recommended to me using “quiltbag” which does roll off the tongue well. Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Lesbian, Trans, Bi, Ace/Aro, Gay. I like Pride but it could easily be confused. Just my thoughts.

This collection enlisted talent around the world. From students to seasoned professionals, these writers came together to raise awareness and reinvent classic stories. While they showcase a wide variety of origins, styles, and endings, all the tales in this anthology have one classic element in common: a happily ever after. Fifty percent of this collection’s proceeds will be donated to the Trevor Project, a non-profit focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual and other queer youth.

Or donate directly to @thetrevorproject anytime in the month of June and I’ll send you the ebook!

BABIES!!!

so the best thing about this is that bobcats, like just about every feline besides lions and domestic cats, are pretty solitary. they don’t really have friends. they aren’t really equipped to make friends.

domestic cats, on the other hand, do know how to make friends. they are friendly to the point that lots of feral cats live in colonies— the females hang out together, even raise kids together, and the males like to spend nonsexual time with their baby mommas. they groom each other, play around, and have a particular tail position to signal to one another— straight up with the tip curled— that they’re friendly and happy to see each other. cats learned how to be chill with each other in order to take full advantage of human food sources: an ancient granary supplies enough rats for a lot of cats, as does a modern lady with a big bag of frisky bits, so it would be a waste of time and energy for any one cat to try and stake the entire foodsource out for exclusive use. less fighting means more eating and resting which means a longer, nicer life and a lot more kittens.

so this stray cat, she obviously has no colony if she’s wandering around and sneaking into zoo enclosures, so she’s like ‘hey! there’s food here! what up, other cat, let’s be friends, let’s be friends and share that food’. and the bobcat is like ‘??????’ because actually wild cats are pretty cautious about initiating hostilities and anything new and aggressive makes them very worried. and the domestic cat is like ‘haha cool, ok, we’re friends now, big guy. no problems.’ and the bobcat is like ‘????? well…?? ok?’ and then they are friends.

the super interesting thing about most wild cat species is they don’t really have the capacity to make friends on their own, especially outside of sibling bonds, but, if someone comes along and does all the friend-making themselves, they’ll totally roll with it. zoo cats can get really attached to their caregivers— or, in this case, a very confident little calico demonstrating exactly why her species has been so darn successful over the last nine thousand years .

so anyway that is the best thing: bobcats are not equipped to make friends, but luckily for this bobcat this homeless lady did not give any shits and made friends anyway. and now they are both happy.

#THE FACT THAT THE KEY TO DOMESTIC CAT’S SUCCESS IS THAT THEY LEARNED  #THE MEANING OF FRIENDSHIP #IS A FUCKING HOOT

I will never be over the floofpaws of the bobcat attempting loafstance in that first picture

OH MY GOOOOOOOD

My mom said that today in church her pastor said in the sermon that Jesus told us to help the poor, and taking money away from public schools to give to charter schools only widens the gap between the rich and the poor.  She then added that Jesus spoke against adultery and lust and would not have approved of bragging about sexually assaulting women.  According to my mom, people got up and walked out.

The pastor also started the sermon by noting that she’d heard of another minister who read the entirety of the Sermon on the Mount at the pulpit, to be told by the so-called Christian parishioners after the service that it was offensive and they didn’t agree.

The Sermon on the Mount is straight up the words of Jesus.

I recently read an article that said, hypocritical Christians in America don’t actually worship Jesus. They worship America, and even then, it’s a very specific, self-centered idea of America.

YES.  EXACTLY.

My mom’s church talks almost every Sunday about how Christians are called to welcome strangers and foreigners and does tons of stuff to help refugees because HELLO, IT’S RIGHT THERE. IN THE RED TEXT, NO LESS.

I don’t believe everything they believe, but I REALLY like those people.

What a lot of these people are is idolators.

Not in terms of the realness or unrealness of who they worship, but in terms of how they’ve warped their focus away from the reality and turned it towards a fantasy of their own construction.

By definition, an idol is an image with no god behind it.

What they have done is taken the idea of Jesus and created a false image of him, nothing like the reality, to carry around in their back pocket, or to wave around on signs, and pull out and shove in people’s faces to justify all manner of unChristlike behavior.

It is a “worship” that is fundamentally self-centered rather than deity-centered, wherein the deity in question is more of a pocketbook get-out-of-jail-free card than directive to live by, and more of a status symbol than a guiding light.

That people will, without a shred of self-awareness, rest themselves assured that Jesus would want them to tip their waitress with a Jesus pamphlet made to look like folded-up money (to take only one example out of many) is the ultimate dismissal of everything the original stood for.

There is a line in the Bible about Jesus meeting his false worshipers and saying “I do not know you.” It seems like plenty of so-called Christians have beaten him to the punch with how quick they are to say they don’t know him.

A lot of churches and organizations in America that call themselves Christian churches are in fact Christianist cults.  They no more represent Christianity than Daesh represents Islam.  In addition to the usual nonsense of so-called Christians being pro-war, anti-immigrant, racist, and so forth, there are a lot of sects/movements that are just completely toxic and not Christian at all, even though they use that label.  If you are Christian and want to have some fucking nightmares, google “christian dominionist,” or “prosperity gospel.”

Still think this is the most realistic diagram of the difference between the theological Jesus and the Comfortable Reinterpretation of Jesus.

American Christianity is, at this point, like the Cult of the Emperor in ancient Rome, which is simultaneously both ironic and appropriate given the history involved

I’ve been saying for too long now: “Too many Christians want to be the Romans”

I don’t believe in anything particular but if I end up seeing Mr. J in some afterlife I’ll be sure to apologize for his so-called followers.

ok ok ok ok ok ok can I just have a quick lil moment of your time?

mod2amaryllis:

This shit.

So Hunchback is far and away my favorite movie from Disney’s
Renaissance, and it always makes me so happy that yes, people seem to
appreciate it, people seem to love it, but I’mma go into exactly WHY it’s my
favorite, and WHY I think it’s so crucial, and WHY I think it should be
required viewing for young boys specifically.

We all know that a huge bulk of the media we’ve grown up
with consistently has that one frustrating message:  Being the hero means you’ll get the
girl.
Many boys let this mentality bleed
into reality.  We have “nice guys,” who
feel that their niceness entitles them to romance, when obviously that
discredits a female’s personal choice.  We
all get this, we all know this, and a lot of us get that it’s a toxic message.

So check out our hero.

He’s an incredibly good person who isn’t conventionally attractive.

Check out our lady.

Super good person, conventionally attractive.

The movie so deliberately builds up Quasi’s hopes.  There’s a whole fucking song about it.

But Esmeralda, who is her own person with her own
motivations and preferences, chooses another man, who is also good and also
attractive.

A lot of people criticize this aspect of the movie, the fact
that Quasi doesn’t get the girl BECAUSE of his appearance.  But my argument?  This is the best damn message a movie could
ever send.

Because when things get dicey, when Esmeralda’s life in in
danger, when Quasi would be putting his own life on the line, he knows that
romance is no longer within the realm of possibility.  He knows he won’t be “getting the girl.”  He knows this, and he allows himself a moment
of bitterness, he risks falling prey to the “nice guy” trope, and he almost
succumbs.

“She already has her knight in shining armor, and it’s not me.”

BUT THEN HE DOES THE RIGHT THING.

He has NO ulterior motive for saving her life.  NO ulterior motive for opposing the man who
raised him.  And he doesn’t know that he’ll
get any reward, he knows he could straight up get killed for his actions, and
yet he still acts.

And there’s no bitterness.
There’s still so, so much love between him and Esmeralda, pure awesome
platonic love, and love between him and Phoebus, and just fucking love all
around, it’s amazing.

I’ve heard so many people express distaste at Quasi not
ending up with Esmerelda.  Like he was
cheated out of some kind of reward.  But
have they watched the ending?

Does that look like a man cheated of his reward?  Does he look like he “lost” to Phoebus?  No dude, that’s a man who has everything he
ever wanted, and that’s also a man who didn’t “get the girl.”

If that’s not an essential message for young boys to hear, I
don’t know what is.

We are so used to movies and books where the characters evolution goes from bad (villain) to good (hero) but imagine a story where most of the characters start as heroes but throughout the story they only get worst and in the end they become powerful villains and the original villains are now united to defeat them and defend innocents.
