in stories featuring aliens, they’re always like “on my planet this never happens!” or “in my culture, this differs from your human culture.” and that’s neat and all because i like worldbuilding and all that jazz but wouldn’t it be fun if they just. couldn’t do that?

i want a story where humans encounter an alien who frustrates them because they don’t know enough to tell them anything concrete

like humans will ask “tell us about politics in your planet!” and the alien’s all “uh… hold on it’s been a while since i took gov. um….”

“what sorts of plants grow on your planet?”

“i dunno i grew up in the suburbs. they’re like… purple? idk what you want me to say”

“tell us about the culture on your planet!”

“do you have any idea how many fucking countries are back home, i don’t even know where to begin”

“your planet is obviously much more scientifically and technologically advanced than ours. is it possible for you to enlighten us on certain matters concerning space travel, or would that be a form of interference you must avoid?”

“naw it’s cool, it’s just that, um, i’m a philosophy major”

OOH OOH AND

“take me to your leader”

“…we have like hundreds of leaders like which one? my country’s leader? another country’s leader? the director of our space program? my country’s military leader? my mom??”

Could I PLEASE stop seeing period dramas where women aren’t wearing chemises under their corsets

Also to add- corsets were not because of “patriarchical oppression”. In most cases it was how you held up and supported your boobs with the benefit of shaping your figure at the same time. Just like a bra today. I hate it when some actresses refuse to wear corsets for a role that ABSOLUTELY WOULD HAVE WORN ONE because they’re trying to express their feminism. Like, I get it, it’s 100% okay to express your feminism but for goodness sakes do some historical research about what it actually was before making assumptions

Also, also, please no more “I can’t get into my corset without help” because that’s nonsense. I’m sure there were a lot of rich ladies who were laced in every day but a lot of other women managed to put on corsets themselves just fine. There was a study done in the 1887 about how women laced their corsets and the majority of them didn’t lace it so tightly they couldn’t breathe. In fact most women laced it to a comfortable place, with a 3 to 4 inch gap at the back.

There are so many myths about corsets and I’m passionate about accurate depictions of historical clothing

One of my favorite things about working at Faire is seeing the differences in corset styles.

We certainly have the “put your knee in my back and help” people – but those of us that are bending or working more active areas will do the *wiggle, clip, fluff YANK* move and let me tell you, seeing a hot person yank their own corset laces and immediately become 30% hotter is a DAMN BLESSING at stupid o’clock in the morning.

This is what I hate the most about nearly all online debates. Sometimes opposing sides are NOT equal, and we shouldn’t treat them as if they were.

thor is that chad looking dude pathetic men try to say is the enemy and he’s always sort of messing around in class so u think he’s sort of an ass but one night you end up at the same party as him and find out he’s the DD for everyone there. He makes 15 trips. He carries four grown men into their dorms on his shoulders and makes sure they pass out on their sides so they’re safe but not until he makes all of them drink a glass of water.

then he asks everyone else who’s still conscious if they want to go to steak n’ shake before the night ends. he pays for all the shakes.

I’ve never read a more accurate description of Thor in my life

ahjareyn: I’m sorry, but if you think you can only make a sexy Hollywood movie by infringing on a woman’s safety and well-being, then you are 900% doing it wrong. Source: fencer-x

if you currently identify as straight or cis, and you want to explore the possibility of being something else, thats okay and good. if you explore and/or identify as non-straight or non-cis for a time, and then find out you actually are still straight/cis too, that is also okay.

in all honesty, i’m not really saying this for the people who will end up still cis/het. like, it is okay, 100%, but most people will support you in that eventual identity and it will likely be easier to get there than it will to question initially.

the real reason im saying this is because so many of us are scared of being wrong, of “appropriating the experience” and whatnot, that we don’t ever actually get the chance to self-reflect and see if our questions may be genuine.

it’s okay to question your gender n orientation, it’s okay if youre wrong – its okay if youre right. cis and straight are not the default, and you deserve to explore all of your options. you deserve to find your most sincere, true self.
