25 Days of Writing Challenge: Day 14

Day 14: FREE DAY! Write any scene you want!

Exhausted and worn out from everything in the last several months, Lemira slumped against a tree. The bark pushed into her back as she sank to the ground on legs that no longer provided support. A lowly trainee in the King’s Army, things weren’t supposed to be like this. Yesterday marked the last funeral service for the three trainees who died last month and grief burdened her heart. The heartbreaking letter from home she received in the mail a few hours ago crushed the final pillar of strength inside her. Physical strain from the long months of training, emotional strain from the deaths of her fellow trainees, and the devastation of hope from home placed a burden on her she could no longer bear. Alone and forgotten, she pulled her knees to her chest and cried tears of pain and despair. She knew that the training would start again tomorrow and she only had until then to purge her system of all her petty weaknesses.

Tomorrow, she must armor herself in ice and become the best soldier in the King’s Army.

Tomorrow, she would learn to kill.
