Day 16: Your character is going on a trip. Where to? Who with, if anyone? Why are they going on a trip? Write a scene of them either getting ready or departing on their journey.
The sun sank below the horizon and covered the barracks in shadow. The trainees earned another free day tomorrow and many already left to spend the time in the local market or with family and friends.
Lemira’s family lived several days travel away and she had yet to meet any other trainees who she would consider friends. She often felt as though she was alone in her desire and motivation to actually become a soldier in the King’s Army. She refused the heavy intoxication drinks so many of her peers favored and found the pleasure houses and bars rather distasteful. As that seemed to be the entire extent of the activities her peers pursued when not conducting training, she felt isolated and left out.
She paced the length of the barracks, back and forth across the wooden floor. Everything that happened, all the death, loss, confusion, and despair tugged at her heart.
Trainees weren’t supposed to travel by themselves but Lemira knew that if she stayed here, she might wind up crazy. Resolved to action, she dug through her foot locker. She packed her day bag with an extra set of clothes, some hygiene items, and a set of knives. Then boots, a cloak, and her hunting knife.
She crept out while the night guards joked around the card table and fled into the night.
